The Institute Conducts Its Second Workshop on "Designing and Applying Assessment Rubrics" for Academic Staff

As part of its ongoing academic development initiatives, the Institute held its second training workshop for faculty and academic staff on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, titled "Designing and Applying Assessment Rubrics" in the Library Hall.

The three-hour interactive session (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) addressed the practical outcomes of the first year of institute-wide rubric implementation, which revealed that the primary challenges stemmed from rubric design rather than the digital platform itself. Consequently, the workshop focused on the core principle that: "A rubric should be designed properly first and digitized second."

Throughout the session, participants engaged with key practical competencies, including:

Understanding the fundamental purpose of assessment rubrics in enhancing grading fairness, institutional consistency, and meaningful student feedback.

Distinguishing between assessment criteria and performance levels, as well as analytic versus holistic rubrics.

Writing observable, discriminating performance descriptors that enable different examiners to evaluate coursework consistently.

Aligning rubric criteria with Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and successfully embedding them into the official Course Book.

Fairly allocating marks across diverse criteria and managing borderline grading judgments.

Accurately transferring and integrating finalized rubrics onto the institutes official online platform.

The workshop concluded with an active Q&A session, fostering scholarly discussion aimed at standardizing modern, transparent assessment practices across all academic departments
